When should you consult a dermatologist?

A consultation is recommended if you experience:

  • Rashes, redness, itching, or skin flaking
  • Acne, rosacea, or other chronic skin problems
  • Suspicious moles, pigmented spots, or skin lesions
  • Hair loss or scalp conditions
  • Brittle, discolored, or infected nails
  • Allergic skin reactions, urticaria, or dermatitis
  • Suspicion of skin cancer or precancerous lesions

How to prepare for a dermatology appointment?

To make your visit most effective:

  1. Avoid applying creams, makeup, or topical medications to the affected area at least 24 hours before your appointment.
  2. Bring previous test results, histology reports, allergy tests, or microbiological analyses.
  3. Describe your symptoms in detail, when they started, how they progress, and what worsens or relieves them.
  4. For hair loss, prepare information on family history and any medications you are taking.
  5. Make a list of skincare and haircare products you currently use.

What happens during a dermatology consultation?

The visit begins with a detailed discussion and medical history (anamnesis), followed by an examination of the skin, hair, and nails using specialized instruments such as a dermatoscope.

If necessary, the dermatologist may order additional diagnostic tests, including skin biopsy, microbiological testing, allergy testing, or dermatoscopic evaluation of moles.

Finally, an individualized treatment and prevention plan is developed, which may include medication, laser procedures, dermatologic surgery, or skincare recommendations for daily routines.
